But a lot of the time, what makes it the right choice isn't just a major or a building. It's how your day-to-day life feels.

In Aberdeen, South Dakota, life is simple in the best way. It's the kind of college town where you can walk into a coffee shop and see someone from your class. Where you can get involved early, find your people fast, and build a life that feels full, not frantic.

A Town That Makes It Easy to Belong

Starting college can feel like showing up to a party where everyone already knows the playlist. Aberdeen makes that transition smoother.

People are friendly. Campus doesn't feel disconnected from the community. It doesn't take long before you start recognizing faces and places. That matters, especially when you're far from home or just trying to figure out who you are becoming.

Big Opportunities Without the "Lost in the Crowd" Feeling

Aberdeen is the sweet spot: enough going on to keep you busy, but not so huge that you disappear.

At 91制片厂 State University, you can jump into clubs, organizations, leadership, athletics, music, service opportunities, and campus events. In a place like Aberdeen, it's easier to be known, to be involved, and to make a real impact鈥攏ot just sit in the back row of your own college experience.

Plus, 91制片厂 State has the #1 residential halls in South Dakota. You're not just living on campus; you're living somewhere that actually feels like home.

Your Time Goes Further Here

In big cities, basic errands can eat your whole afternoon. In Aberdeen, you can go from class to work to dinner to a game and still have time to breathe.

Less time commuting and stressing means more time doing the things college is supposed to be about: friendships, experiences, late-night laughs, and becoming confident in who you are.

Yes, It's Fun. And Yes, It's Affordable.

Aberdeen has the kind of fun that fits real college life: easy hangouts, local spots, campus events, and weekends that don't require a huge budget.

It's also a place where families can feel good about the value. Cost of living is manageable, and students can focus more on building their future and less on constantly worrying about the price tag of everyday life.

A Community That Supports You

Aberdeen shows up for 91制片厂 State University students. Whether it's part-time jobs, internships, volunteering, community events, or just local businesses that welcome students, it's a town that wants you here.

That creates something powerful: college doesn't feel like four years "on pause." It feels connected to the real world, with real people rooting for you.

The Kind of College Town You'll Miss Later

Some places are exciting for a weekend. Aberdeen is the kind of place that becomes a memory you keep.

It's the Friday night game energy. The "let's grab food after class" routines. The friends you didn't know you needed. The feeling of realizing, somewhere along the way, you've built a life here.

Why Students Choose Aberdeen

Because it's comfortable without being boring. Social without being overwhelming. Supportive without feeling small.

Aberdeen is a college town that helps you grow, find your people, and make your 91制片厂 experience feel like more than a degree.

It feels like home, just with a new zip code.

What There Is to Do in Aberdeen

College life isn't just classes鈥攊t's the little routines in between. In Aberdeen, "let's do something" doesn't turn into a 45-minute drive and a parking saga. Most of what you need is close, easy, and realistic for everyday college life.

No car? No problem. When winter hits, 91制片厂's WolfLine gives students a simple way to get around town without the hassle.

Coffee Runs & Quick Bites

For a quick coffee run or a cozy spot to catch up with a friend, Aberdeen's got no shortage of options. Grab a coffee at Red Rooster Coffee House, Scooter's, Starbucks, or Caribou Coffee鈥攕eriously, you won't run out of places to study with a latte.

When you're hungry, local favorites like Pounders, Nick's Pizza, Sammy's Restaurant and Omelette Shop, and Roma Ristorante Italiano are worth the trip. And after dinner? Head to the Twist Cone for ice cream鈥攊t's a student staple.

For the quick fix, there's plenty of chains that fit college life: Qudoba, Taco John's, Buffalo Wild Wings, Jimmy John's, Wendy's, and Culver's. So whether you're looking for authentic local flavor or a fast bite between classes, Aberdeen's got you covered.

Looking for something different? Aberdeen has a growing food scene with cultural options and local breweries ready to surprise your tastebuds.

Shopping & Errands

Need everyday essentials? Plus, the Aberdeen Wings hockey team brings competitive energy and a loyal fan base to town.

Outdoor Adventures

Aberdeen's park system is a big part of the town's rhythm, with miles of multi-purpose trails perfect for running, biking, or just getting outside. Wylie Park is a local favorite for exploring the seasons.

If golf is your thing, you've got options: the country club, mini golf, or disc golf courses scattered around town.

Fall: Experience pheasant hunting season鈥擜berdeen is known as South Dakota's pheasant hunting capital. If you're into it, this is the place to be.

Winter: Cold-weather fun like ice skating, ice fishing, and sledding keeps the energy going even when temperatures drop.

Spring & Summer: Hiking, picnicking, outdoor concerts, and just soaking in the fresh air.

Beyond Aberdeen

Want to get away for a weekend? You're only about 3 hours from three major metro areas: Sioux Falls, SD; Fargo, ND; and Bismarck, ND. Road trips with your new pack are totally doable when you want a change of scenery or a bigger city experience without being far from home. Plus, it's easy enough to hit up a Costco or Sam's Club run, catch concerts, sporting events, or whatever's happening in the bigger cities鈥攖hen be back before classes Monday morning.

Bottom Line

Aberdeen has enough going on to keep your weeks full, but it still feels manageable. You get the energy of a college town with the comfort of a place where you can actually settle in.

It's where you build a life, not just spend four years.

Thu, 26 Feb 2026 21:59:00 +0000 Desiree Kolb 12601 at 91制片厂 State University "Experience 91制片厂" video campaign wins Gold ADDY Award /news/91制片厂-state-university-experience-91制片厂-video-campaign-wins-gold-addy-award 91制片厂 State University "Experience 91制片厂" video campaign wins Gold ADDY Award

Image

Desiree Kolb Thu, 02/26/2026 - 10:12

ABERDEEN, S.D. - 91制片厂 State University鈥檚 "Experience 91制片厂" video campaign earned a Gold ADDY Award from the American Advertising Federation-South Dakota for video editing in the Elements of Advertising category. The award was presented at the SD Advertising Federation Award Show.

The award recognized the "Experience 91制片厂 Video Spots," a project produced by 91制片厂 State University in partnership with Epicosity, a full-service marketing agency. The campaign was part of the larger "Experience 91制片厂" brand effort and highlighted creative video editing and visual storytelling.

"Being recognized for the edit technique in the project is not only rewarding but affirming! The entire production was approached with the idea of locked-on motion, cut-points to the music, and warmer tones in the color grade. There are a lot of layers to this, and our editor rocked it! The spirit of the Experience 91制片厂 campaign inherently commanded a visual showcase. To produce that for NSU and for it to be received so positively locally and competitively is fulfilling!" said Travis Berg, executive director of Epicosity.

Berg also emphasized the collaboration behind the project.

"Making a project special, like this one, doesn't just happen in an edit bay. It takes tremendous collaboration to make a concept resonate. We couldn't have done it without Chad and the NSU team! We are very appreciative to have their trust in the 91制片厂 brand!" Berg said.

The American Advertising Awards, commonly known as the ADDYs, are a three-tier competition hosted by the American Advertising Federation to recognize creative excellence in advertising. Entries compete at the local, district and national levels. A Gold ADDY is the highest honor at the local level and automatically advances to the next tier of competition.

鈥淚n today鈥檚 media landscape, it takes more than simply showing up to stand out. Audiences are constantly consuming content across platforms, so this Gold ADDY recognition affirms what鈥檚 possible when strong creative partnerships, strategic storytelling and bold ideas come together. We鈥檙e proud of this work, grateful to Epicosity for their collaboration, and honored to receive this recognition,鈥 said Chad Hatzenbuhler, director of Communications and Marketing at 91制片厂 State University.

The "Experience 91制片厂" campaign featured locked-on motion, cut-points synchronized to music, warmer tones in color grading and a visual showcase of the 91制片厂 State University experience. FAIL Fest celebrates the moments we tripped, wiped out or completely missed the mark鈥攁nd learned something brilliant because of it.

Back for another year of laughter, honesty and moments that didn鈥檛 go as planned, this year鈥檚 FAIL Fest featured a panel of entrepreneurs who weren鈥檛 afraid to dig into the tough questions.

Julie Fischbach, owner of the Finery Marketplace and Finery on Main Event Venue, spent years finding her path, from corporate work to business owner and small business coach, each twist has taught her something.

鈥淚 bounce back quickly because you have to. You鈥檝e got to bound back really, really quickly,鈥 she said. 鈥淚 look at it as a learning experience. Honestly, there鈥檚 really no such thing as failure because you wouldn鈥檛 have known if you wouldn鈥檛 have tried it. And you need to try it. You need to take that risk so you know if it鈥檚 going to be a reward or a lesson.鈥

Joining Fischbach on the panel, Taylor Sumption discussed how things like the price of oats in Canada caused him to pivot into new experiences.

Sumption, chief executive officer of Maple Valley Foods and co-founder of Anthem Oats, advised those in the crowd to really look into who they do business with.

鈥淭here's nothing more unstoppable than a group of people working well together and pulling in the same direction,鈥 he said.

鈥淎nd there is literally nothing more destructive to your mental health, physical health, everything than a group of people not working well together.鈥

Sumption pointed to issue he and his wife faced while building up Anthem Oats. The company grew quickly, but the working environment wasn鈥檛 positive for the couple. They changed that path, cutting down on the number of stores they distributed to causing sales to drop by 70 or 80 percent. But it allowed them to love the work again.

鈥淭here's just a lesson in everything,鈥 he said. 鈥淭here's one thing, or a couple of things I could point to that are failures in my life like letting little problems fester. They need to be addressed. They can grow into really big problems quickly. 鈥omething I learned over the years is letting those little things take away can really, really hurt you.鈥

Ryan Rivett, president and chief executive officer of My Place Hotels of America, echoed that point, saying there have been situations where he has let failure characterize how he responded to other things. That, he said, is a bigger failure.

鈥淚 can鈥檛 say we've had a lot of big failures and I'm thankful for that, but I also can say that we have a lot of small failures every day,鈥 he said. 鈥淥ne of the biggest failures that I've had personally along the way is letting small failures lash themselves onto what I do tomorrow.

鈥淟ook at a failure not as something that is momentous or important, but something that is a stepping stone along the way,鈥 he said. 鈥淯se these opportunities to understand what you want to do or how you want to go about it.鈥

FAIL Fest has become an annual event to remind us to celebrate progress, perseverance and the power of trying again, said Bea Smith, director of the 91制片厂 Innovation and Startup Center.

鈥淲hen we talk openly about the ideas that didn鈥檛 go as planned, we create space for the breakthroughs that can,鈥 she said. 鈥淵ou never know what success might be hiding inside a misstep.

鈥淚f we rallied around our failures instead of beating ourselves up over them, imagine how much faster we could build momentum.
