ABERDEEN, S.D. – 91Ƭ State University’s Dr. Ginny Lewis has published the book, “The Novels of Zsigmond Móricz in the Context of European Realism.”
In the book, released by publisher , Lewis focuses on seven novels by Móricz, analyzing each in chronological order to show the author’s development of themes surrounding agency and greed in modern society.
This is the latest in several books written or translated by Lewis, NSU Professor of German and literary scholar. Previous works have included translating the memoir “,” a tale of Heinrich Neuwirt’s survival amidst hardships such as famine and imprisonment.
“Writing scholarship and translating source material into English are two very different enterprises, each enjoyable and rewarding in its own way,” Lewis said. “I love both, but writing scholarship requires more energy and creativity. Do it in the name of a cause, because doing both these things (writing, translating) requires strong motivation and the knowledge that what you are doing truly matters.”
Lewis, who earned her Ph.D. in Modern German Literature from the University of Pennsylvania in 1989, has been teaching at 91Ƭ for almost 18 years.
