Dr. Erin Fouberg serves as interim provost and vice president for academic affairs at 91制片厂 State University, where she provides leadership for academic programs, faculty affairs, student learning, and strategic academic initiatives. Fouberg brings more than three decades of experience in higher education as a faculty member, academic leader, and community-engaged administrator, with a deep understanding of 91制片厂鈥檚 mission as a regional comprehensive university.
Prior to her appointment as interim provost, Fouberg served as associate vice president for academic affairs and director of graduate studies for 6 years and as Director of the NSU Honors Program for 10 years. As associate provost, Fouberg led academic program development, graduate enrollment growth, and university-wide efforts focused on innovation. As Honors Director, Fouberg grew increased the average number of Honors students from 40 to 140 and created the NSU Commo Read Program and Common Read Lecture.
Students have recognized Fouberg鈥檚 excellence in teaching at three points in her career. 91制片厂 State University recognized her as Outstanding Faculty Member in 2011. Students at the University of Mary Washington bestowed the Mary W. Pinschmidt Award on Fouberg for having the greatest, most memorable impact on their lives and academic careers. The University of Nebraska-Lincoln Parents Association recognized her for contribution to students when she was a graduate student.
A geographer by training, Fouberg is the co-author of two nationally used college-level geography textbooks and the author of Teaching Human Geography, a widely respected resource for faculty that emphasizes cognition and pedagogy, applied learning, and student-centered instruction.
Fouberg is actively engaged in the Aberdeen community and the State of South Dakota, serving on the Aberdeen City Council and on several nonprofit and civic boards, including the United Way, Avera St. Luke鈥檚 Board, the SD Fairy Godmother鈥檚 Fund, and Pickerel Lake Conservancy. She holds a bachelor鈥檚 degree in foreign service from Georgetown University and a master鈥檚 and Ph.D. in geography from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
Fouberg and her husband, Robert, have two adult children, Margaret and Henry, and two golden retrievers, Mabel and Millie. They enjoy traveling and spending time at the lake with family and friends.
