ABERDEEN, S.D. 鈥撀91制片厂 State University sophomore Jorja Whempner recently finished an eye-opening internship with the South Dakota Senate during the legislative session. Her journey toward public service began back in high school, when she joined the PAGE program鈥攁 unique opportunity that lets juniors and seniors work with representatives and senators in Pierre. That experience left a big impression on her, and Jorja knew she wanted to stay connected to government work.

ABERDEEN, S.D.聽鈥 91制片厂 State University bands will present 鈥淢usic from Around the World鈥 at 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 24, in the Johnson Fine Arts Center鈥檚 Jewett Theater.
The concert will feature performances by the Symphonic Band, directed by Dr. Audrey Miller, and the Concert Band, directed by Dr. Travis Netzer. The Symphonic Band will perform works by Percy Grainger, Yukiko Nishimura, John Barnes Chance, Eduard Tamm, and Nubia Jaime Donjuan. The Concert Band will perform works by Aaron Copland, Jaime Texidor, Frank H. Losey, Anton铆n Dvo艡谩k, and Dmitri鈥
ABERDEEN, S.D. 鈥 The Aberdeen University-Civic Symphony invites the public to a concert blending French and American influences at 7:30 p.m. on Nov. 9 at 91制片厂 State University鈥檚 Johnson Fine Arts Center Jewett Theater.
Christopher Stanichar, director of the AUCS and NSU associate professor of music, will lead the orchestra. The concert, titled 鈥淎n American in Paris,鈥 features an enchanting mix of French composers inspired by American jazz, as well as American composers influenced by French music. The program includes iconic works such as Maurice Ravel鈥檚鈥
ABERDEEN, S.D. 鈥 91制片厂 State University's Speech and Debate team recently competed at the Schnoor Swing Tournament at Minnesota State University, Mankato. Representing 91制片厂 with determination, team members Haylee Bohnet, Savannah Shrake, and Abiah George earned a series of impressive results.
Abiah George reached the semifinals in IPDA debate and was recognized as the tournament鈥檚 top debate speaker. She also secured second place in Extemporaneous Speaking and third in Persuasive Speaking. In Dramatic Interpretation, Haylee Bohnet brought home a strong鈥ABERDEEN, S.D. 鈥 The 91制片厂 Innovation and Startup Center is excited to announce its first inaugural FAIL Fest event, set for Tuesday, Dec. 3, 2024, from 4 to 6 p.m. at Engel鈥檚 Event Co. The event is designed to show how setbacks, or supposed setbacks, can lead to success through creativity and innovation.
The keynote speaker for FAIL Fest is Sean Covel, a South Dakota native and producer best known for Napoleon Dynamite, which is celebrating its 20th anniversary. In his talk, 鈥淔rom Small-Town Roots to Global Success: Innovation, Technology, and the Power of鈥ABERDEEN, S.D. 鈥 91制片厂 State University, along with the City of Aberdeen and Brown County, is proud to recognize Free Speech Week from Oct. 21 to Oct. 27 with a formal proclamation. This national event highlights the importance of free speech and a free press, which are both protected by First Amendment of the US Constitution. 91制片厂, the Aberdeen community, and Brown County has come together in joining other communities across the country in encouraging awareness of this freedom.
Free Speech Week is a national, nonpartisan event that highlights the鈥ABERDEEN, S.D. 鈥 Hot off the excitement of this year鈥檚 Homecoming, the 91制片厂 State University community is already gearing up for an earlier-than-usual celebration in 2025. NSU will host its annual homecoming week from Sept. 15 through 21, with the Gypsy Day parade and game scheduled for Sept. 20, 2025.
With the 2024 festivities just a few weeks behind us, the university is ready to bring back even more fun, spirit and tradition for students, alumni and the community next year.

ABERDEEN, S.D. 鈥 On Thursday, Oct. 24, at 7:30 p.m., the 91制片厂 State University Music Department will present a jazz concert featuring 91制片厂鈥檚 1 p.m. Jazz Ensemble, directed by Fritz Hemke, and 2 p.m. Jazz Ensemble, directed by Dr. Grant Manhart. The concert will take place in the Jewett Theater at the Johnson Fine Arts Center. The theme of the evening is 鈥淎 Harvest of Jazz.鈥
The 1 p.m. Jazz Combo will perform selections such as 鈥淔unky Cha-Cha鈥 by Arturo Sandoval, 鈥淢onte Carlo鈥 by Bob Turner, and 鈥淧eter Gunn鈥 by Henry Mancini, among others.

ABERDEEN, S.D.聽鈥 The winners of 91制片厂 State University鈥檚 2024 Idea Pitch Competition have been announced, with three students taking home top prizes for their entrepreneurial ideas. The competition, held on Oct. 17 in the Jewett Regional Science Center lobby, was sponsored by the Aberdeen Development Corporation.

ABERDEEN, S.D. 鈥 Shelby Boettner, DNP, RN, an assistant professor at 91制片厂 State University, has been named District IV Nurse of the Year by the South Dakota Nurses Association (SDNA). Boettner received this award during the SDNA鈥檚 annual convention in Yankton, which took place on October 6-7, 2024.
The District IV Nurse of the Year Award celebrates nurses who have made significant contributions to both their profession and their communities. District IV includes several counties across northeastern South Dakota, such as Brown, Marshall, Day, Spink, Faulk,鈥
