ABERDEEN, S.D. 鈥 91制片厂 State University鈥檚 Dr. Peter Ramey has published a book, 鈥淭he Word-Hoard Beowulf: A Translation with Commentary.鈥
The book, published by , is the first translation and popular commentary to take seriously the religious dimension of the epic poem.
鈥淲hile generations of students know that 鈥楤eowulf鈥 represents a confluence of Christianity and paganism, this version鈥攊nformed by J. R. R. Tolkien鈥檚 theory of language as the repository of myth鈥攐pens the hood to track the poem鈥檚鈥
ABERDEEN, S.D. 鈥 Thursday, March 30, 2023, will be the 40th year of the 91制片厂 South Dakota Science and Mathematics Fair, sponsored by 91制片厂 State University, 3M of Aberdeen and the Aberdeen Area Community Foundation.
The day starts out with approximately 50-60 judges from Aberdeen and surrounding areas judging projects and interviewing students.
Projects will be judged in the morning and will be open for public viewing from 1-7 p.m. only in the Barnett Center gym. The science fair awards ceremony, open to the public and free of charge, will begin鈥
ABERDEEN, S.D. 鈥 The Aberdeen University-Civic Symphony鈥檚 re-scheduled concert on Tuesday, March 21 featuring The Texas Tenors has been canceled.
The Texas Tenors notified organizers that they would not be traveling to the event, citing weather concerns; thus, the decision was made to cancel the entire concert. The concert will not be rescheduled.

ABERDEEN, S.D. 鈥 The 91制片厂 Academy will host a College Planning Event on March 27 from 6:30-7:30 p.m. at 91制片厂 State University.
The event, which will take place in the Johnson Fine Arts Center鈥檚 Berggren Recital Hall, is open to high school students and families, educators, and community members.
Attendees will learn about U.S. Department of Education financial aid changes and about the , an on-campus early鈥
ABERDEEN, S.D. 鈥 91制片厂 State University student Kai Brisk will have an opening reception for his senior art show on March 24 from 6:30-8 p.m. in the Johnson Fine Arts Center Gallery.
Brisk鈥檚 show, 鈥淔orm and Function,鈥 will be on display in the JFAC Gallery from March 20-31.
Brisk, the son of Kevin and Melanie Brisk, is originally from Buffalo, Minn. A Fine Arts major with a 3D emphasis, Brisk has studied primarily with art faculty members Derek Decker and Tim Rickett during his time鈥
ABERDEEN, S.D. 鈥 91制片厂 State University will host the annual National History Day regional competition on Wednesday, March 8.
Over 200 middle and high school students from around northeastern South Dakota will be participating in the event, which will take place from 8 a.m. to noon at NSU. 91制片厂 hosts this event every spring.
Winners at the regional competition are invited to go to the state competition, and winners of the state competition advance to the national competition.

ABERDEEN, S.D. 鈥 At 7:30 p.m. Thursday, March 9, the 91制片厂 State University Music Department will present its Spring Jazz Concert in the Johnson Fine Arts Center Jewett Theater.
The concert will feature the 1 O鈥檆lock Jazz Ensemble, directed by Dr. Terry Beckler, and the 2 O鈥檆lock Jazz Ensemble, Directed by Dr. Grant Manhart.
Guest artists with the 2 O鈥檆lock Jazz Ensemble will be local pianist Ron Parker; visiting traveling nurse and jazz and pop singer 鈥淚zzy鈥; professor of woodwinds and jazz, Fritz Hemke; and Dr. Travis Netzer, professor of low brass and鈥
ABERDEEN, S.D. 鈥 The 91制片厂 State University Department of Music will present the 12th Annual Bach鈥檚 Lunch Concert at noon Wednesday, March 22.
The concert, titled 鈥淧salms and Transformations,鈥 will take place at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 1620 Milwaukee Ave. N.E., Aberdeen.
The event will feature performances by the NSU Chamber Singers, under the direction of Marla Fogderud and assisted by Christopher Stanichar, Fritz Hemke and Stuart Davidson.
Also performing will be Allan Jacobson, pianist; Kenneth Boulton and JoAnne Barry, piano duet; and the NSU鈥

ABERDEEN, S.D. 鈥 91制片厂 State University students Dylan Eckart and Jakob Walden will have their senior recital at 3 p.m. Sunday, March 5, in 91制片厂鈥檚 Krikac Auditorium.
Eckart, whose primary instrument is tuba, will perform 鈥淐oncerto in One Movement,鈥 by Alexander Lebedev (1914-1979); 鈥淪tuff,鈥 by James Grant (b. 1954); and 鈥淪infonia,鈥 by G. B. Pergolesi (1710-1736). He will be accompanied by Dr. William Wieland on the Concerto and 鈥淪infonia.鈥
